SCULPTRA

What is Sculptra?

Sculptra is a synthetic, biocompatible dermal filler composed of fine particles reconstituted in sterile water. It is injected into the areas of the face with wrinkles, folds and sunken areas to provide fullness and volume. Sculptra is made and marketed by Sanofi-Aventis, a multinational pharmaceutical company with US operation in New Jersey. Currently Sculptra is FDA-approved in the US for people with human immunodeficiency virus.

What does Sculptra treat?

Sculptra is used to enhance the appearance of patients with a loss of volume and texture in their skin. Wrinkling and volume-loss in the areas around the cheeks, the mouth and the eyes are common areas for treatment with Sculptra. Patients with substantial facial fat loss are typical candidates for treatment with Sculptra.

How many treatments will I need?

Generally a patient will be treated with Sculptra with multiple injection sessions. We will determine the number of treatment sessions you may want to achieve optimal results, however a typical patient may receive between 3 and 6 treatments with Sculptra.

What happens during treatment?

A surface anesthetic is applied to the skin to numb any discomfort during the injection session. The Sculptra injection is then inserted. Following the injection, minor swelling will typically set in for a few days. Over the next few weeks the body will form new collagen around the fine particles of the Sculptra gel. As this collagen grows an improvement can be seen in the skin, specifically in volume and thickness. Currently Sculptra is not FDA approved for the immunocompetent individual.

How long does it last?

Clinical studies have shown Sculptra results may last up to 2 years.
